Gluconolactone

Gluconolactone

Gluconolactone is a polyhydroxy acid (PHA), a newer generation of exfoliating acids known for delivering results without compromising the skin barrier. Naturally derived from glucose, gluconolactone offers gentle resurfacing while also supporting hydration and long-term skin health.

Like AHAs, gluconolactone works by dissolving the bonds between dead skin cells, encouraging more even shedding at the surface. What makes it different is its larger molecular size, which allows it to penetrate more slowly and remain closer to the skin’s surface. This results in smoother texture, refined pores, and a brighter, more even-looking complexion—without the stinging, redness, or peeling often associated with stronger exfoliating acids.

Because it exfoliates in a controlled, surface-level way, gluconolactone helps reduce rough patches and visible congestion while remaining well tolerated by sensitive or reactive skin. Its humectant properties further enhance its benefits by drawing water into the skin, improving suppleness and supporting barrier function. A stronger barrier helps limit moisture loss and defend against irritation and breakouts.

Gluconolactone also offers pro-aging benefits. It helps promote healthy cell turnover, defends against oxidative stress, and combats glycation—a process that weakens collagen and elastin over time—making it an ideal exfoliant for maintaining resilient, radiant skin.
