Like some of you, Father’s Day is bittersweet for me. Although I miss my father very much,  I have fond memories that are beginning to overshadow the loss. Over the last couple of years, I’ve worked with some counsellors on how to reframe and become thankful for my grief. For those of you who are not aware, my Dad, also my business partner, passed away from a mighty battle with cancer. You can read my story here. 

My dad was a Rod Stewart fan and to this day I can hear the record player (or maybe it was a cassette tape) in the background, You’re in my heart, you’re in my soul… I do feel my dad’s presence and possibly his soul in the many places I go. I see birds and animals that remind me of him, rainbows where one would not usually see them, and occasionally lights that flicker. Perhaps, it’s my imagination, but also very real in how these manifestations allow me to feel his energy like he is still by my side. 

I’ve tweaked the words a bit to Rod’s song and I continue singing that song in my head or right out loud …you’re in my breath should I grow old, you are my father, you're my best friend, you're in my soul.

Here’s to celebrating all types of dads; father figures, chosen dads. wanting-to-be dads, pet dads, single dads and those of you missing their dads. My team and I feel you!
