What is Botanical Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a naturally occurring antioxidant found in nature. Humans and other vertebrates lack the enzyme that is required for its synthesis; so we need to obtain it from natural resources like green leafy vegetables, such as moringa leaves (found in our Fullmoon Serum), broccoli, cranberries, raspberries and citrus fruits.
In nature, vitamin C is found in two forms: D-ascorbic acid and L-ascorbic acid. L-ascorbic acid is the chemically active form of vitamin C that is biologically active and useful for humans.
What does vitamin C do for the skin?
When the skin is exposed to UV light, superoxide ions or what they call ROS (reactive oxygen species) are generated. 11 These ROS damage cells, alter cellular DNA and lead to collagen breakdown and therefore age the skin.
Vitamin C protects the skin from oxidative stress, collagen breakdown and skin aging by donating one of its electrons to neutralize the free radicals. Vitamin C is equally effective against UVA and UVB.
Vitamin C and Moringa oleifera, a botanical source
The dried and fresh leaves of Moringa oleifera contain a substantial amount of magnesium, iron, folate and vitamins A, B6, C and E. In fact, the vitamin C content of the fresh Moringa oleifera leaves is four times higher when compared to lemon and mosambi. With such a high content of vitamin C to protect the skin from early signs of aging and collagen breakdown, no wonder this was our first choice in botanical ingredients for our beloved Fullmoon Serum.
Who can benefit from botanical vitamin C?
For those who have sensitive skin, a botanical source of vitamin C is ideal. Our Fullmoon Serum contains Moringa oleifera, which is a source of botanical vitamin C that is not acidic and does not cause the side effects of synthetic vitamin C. In fact, the pH of our Fullmoon serum is the same as the skin, so there should be no sensitivities to pH.
Our Fullmoon Serum also contains a botanical retinol, which works with the botanical vitamin C to protect your skin from ROS and prevent the look of fine lines and wrinkles without the side effects.
When used in conjunction our Superfood Serum, which contains vitamin E, your skin will be guaranteed to feel amazing and look youthful.
